An external research evaluation of FAU\u2019s Faculty of Humanities, Social Sciences, and Theology in 2018 recommended to further investigate this field of research.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-rrze-elements-collapsibles \"><div class=\"accordion\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-rrze-elements-collapse \"><div class=\"accordion-group \"><h2 class=\"accordion-heading\"><button class=\"accordion-toggle\" data-toggle=\"collapse\" data-name=\"panel_c6576ec8\" data-href=\"#panel_c6576ec8\" type=\"button\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"panel_c6576ec8-section\" id=\"panel_c6576ec8\">Concept<\/button><\/h2><div id=\"panel_c6576ec8-section\" class=\"accordion-body \" aria-labelledby=\"panel_c6576ec8\" role=\"region\" name=\"panel_c6576ec8\"><div class=\"accordion-inner clearfix\">\n\n<p>The <strong>Interdisciplinary Center for Contemporary Literature and Culture (IZG) <\/strong>brings together the diverse research initiatives at FAU that study contemporary literature and culture. The IZG aims to promote interdisciplinary scientific exchange; overlap can mainly be found between disciplines of the faculty of humanities and social sciences (for example between English studies, American studies, German studies, comparative literature, Romance studies, scandinavian studies, sinology, Islamic studies, art, theater and media studies). However, there is also exchange with natural science subjects, for example as part of the Emerging-Field-Project ELINAS (Erlangen Center for Literature and Natural Science Studies). Literature and culture offer approaches to understanding the contemporary world, open critical perspectives on current developments in society, and accompany political models for the future. Literature and culture can therefore be seen as seismographic instruments which can be used to identify the problems, crises, and aporias of contemporary society. Since its founding, the IZG&#8217;s research and events have been aimed at investigating this process of reflection on social processes. The IZG sees itself as a competence center which combines historically grounded, differentiated in accordance with the social complexities of the present, culturally specific, and cross-cultural knowledge and interpretative achievements in an interdisciplinary manner. The research and events of the IZG aim to communicate and discuss the contemporary cultural and literary phenomena, changes, and perspectives in an effective public manner.
