As part of the Poetik-Kolleg Erlangen, Daniela Dröscher will read from her latest autofictional novel “Lügen über meine Mutter” (Lies About My Mother). Here she tells the story of a family in Hunsrück in the 1980s from the dual perspective of the little girl and the adult woman, of her father with pronounced ambitions for social advancement and of her mother, who is subjected to extreme discrimination within the family because of her body weight. “Lügen über meine Mutter” was shortlisted for the 2022 German Book Prize. Daniela Dröscher is one of the most prominent voices in contemporary German-language literature and repeatedly discusses the relationship between social background and class in her texts. The Poetik-Kolleg Erlangen is organized by the Department of German and Comparative Literature at FAU Erlangen-Nuremberg in cooperation with the Research Training Group “Literature and the Public Sphere in Differentiated Contemporary Cultures”, the Ethics of Textual Cultures course and the Erlangen City Library.
