In the basics of this volume, communication models are outlined and ethical requirements for communication processes such as public sphere, democracy, freedom and truth are pointed out. This is followed by references to norm violations in the form of propaganda, populism, disinformation and anti-Semitism. The section on controversies deals with the reflection of differences of opinion based on the debates on cancel culture and cultural appropriation, among others. In addition, debate spaces in the form of talk shows and tabloid formats are discussed in which these controversies are debated. In the final section, ways towards a constructive culture of debate are shown and initiatives are presented that report on and support people who are affected by misanthropic acts. The book is aimed at students of media and communication studies and social sciences.
